DOWNLOAD SAFETY

How to check a Verity Mod source before you open it.

Safety is not a badge on a page. It is a repeatable check: identify the project, verify the release, then match it to your game.

Quick answer: a source is safer when its identity is verifiable.

Do not use download count, thumbnails, or a familiar keyword in the domain as proof. A safer link allows you to confirm who publishes it, what version it supports, and what it requires before you open a file.

Five-source safety check

  1. Prefer a known project host and the creator’s own project listing.
  2. Compare author and numeric project ID where available.
  3. Read the current file date, release notes, dependencies, and supported game version.
  4. Avoid direct archives from shorteners, comments, random Drive folders, or unrelated sites.
  5. Never paste a private API key into a site that is not the tool or project you intentionally trust.

What ModCheck does—and does not—do

ModCheck links to public project pages and explains what to compare. It does not host Verity files, scan uploaded files, claim affiliation, or guarantee that any community release is safe or compatible.

What this check can prove

Source identity check, not a malware verdict

ModCheck does not download, execute, hash, or virus-scan a file. The useful claim we can make is narrower: whether a link identifies a known public project listing with the expected author, project ID, format and version context.

Result levelMeaningWhat to do
IDENTITY MATCHThe address matches one of the three recorded CurseForge project paths.Still read the current file notes before downloading.
HOST ONLYA recognised host, but not a recorded Verity project path.Manually compare author and numeric project ID.
UNVERIFIED LINKShortener, shared drive, Discord attachment, or unknown host.Find the public project listing instead; do not treat it as an official source.

What would be required for a real URL-reputation check

A production implementation would use a Cloudflare Pages Function to submit only the URL to a reputation provider such as Google Safe Browsing, with its API key stored as a Cloudflare secret. It must not download or execute user files, and the interface must distinguish a reputation result from a file-malware verdict. This site does not claim to provide that service until it is actually configured.
